Years of growth had resulted in overlapping systems, fragmented business processes, and increasing operational costs. The organization required disciplined governance, structured analysis, and coordinated execution to rationalize legacy applications without disrupting critical business operations.
A global pharmaceutical and life sciences organization was executing a large-scale enterprise rationalization initiative focused on reducing technology complexity, lowering operating costs, and improving the efficiency of business capabilities across multiple business units. Leadership sought to simplify the application landscape while maintaining business continuity across a highly regulated global environment.
Engaged to help lead the enterprise rationalization effort, my responsibilities included providing structured portfolio analysis, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, establishing governance, and developing an execution roadmap that balanced business priorities, technology modernization, and value realization.
Partnered with business and technology leaders to assess more than one hundred enterprise applications spanning approximately fifteen business units. Facilitated governance discussions, evaluated business capabilities, identified consolidation opportunities, and developed transition strategies that reduced redundancy while strengthening enterprise alignment. Coordinated planning across technical and business teams, enabling executive decision-making through structured analysis, prioritization, and portfolio visibility.

Assessed more than 100 enterprise applications across approximately 15 business units.
Evaluated business capabilities and identified consolidation opportunities through structured portfolio analysis.
Facilitated governance and prioritization discussions across business and technology leadership.
Developed transition strategies and an execution roadmap balancing continuity, modernization, and value realization.
Contributed to the consolidation of more than forty legacy systems and supported an enterprise initiative projected to reduce operating costs by approximately $120 million. Improved transparency into application portfolios, strengthened governance around investment decisions, and created a repeatable approach for future rationalization initiatives while supporting a technology budget of approximately $21 million.
The engagement demonstrated that technology rationalization is fundamentally an enterprise decision problem rather than simply a technology exercise. Lasting value is achieved when governance, portfolio architecture, business strategy, and execution are synchronized through a common operating model that enables executives to make informed investment and prioritization decisions.
